Wau Jala Budi, Wau Bulan, Wau ...... Traditional Malaysian kites

I have the flu. Its official. It all started during a dinner party with friends and I have been feeling feverish and weak for the last two weeks. I was very excited to see these friends too; I had just come back from the Malaysia Pasir Gudang International Kite Festival and was full of stories about the marvellous experience. My good friends Micheal and Jan from Australia recommended me to the organisers of the kite festival and I gratefully accepted the invitation to attend this world renown festival. As all my friends know, kites are very important to me; I call myself a kite artist. As a true Curacaoian, I was flying kites as soon as I could walk and started making them when I was 5 years old! If you are looking for an ideal kite flying location, CuraƧao is an island about 40 miles off the coast of Venezuela, so right on the border of South America and still inside the Caribbean sea. O.k. back to Malaysia; I arrived at Singapore Intl. Airport one sunny afternoon, after flying for a too long time. It was my first trip to Asia and I must say that I wished I have done this much earlier-still, better late than never. After stepping out of the plane and collecting my baggage I headed straight to the front lobby where met my pickup arranged by the organizers. They were waiting for me-now at this stage I should tell you that not ALL festivals are organised quite so well. On seeing me, the driver asked me where my kite stuff was..But this is the story of another post. Here is a picture of Traditional Malaysian Kites to give you taste of Malaysia.
